Please help!!! My 3 year old granddaughter is autistic, and is without speech. Is signing, the best way to communicate with her?

    ADMIN – Hi Carlina,

Thank you for reaching out to us. We are proud of your efforts to communicate with your granddaughter. The autism spectrum is quite broad and expressed in a variety of ways. Every child is unique in the way and speed in which they acquire knowledge inclusive of communication skills. Sign language is one of many tools used by speech therapists to equip children with verbal barriers. It is always worth a try after consulting with your pediatrician and speech therapist. There are also ways to communicate through augmentative tools like pictures and flash cards. Also, it is worth noting that many children in the autism spectrum will eventually speak. Please know that we are cheering for you and we invite you to take advantage of our free printable baby sign language resources.
