Video: Poop in Baby Sign Language

Signing: The sign for poop is very evocative. You make both hands into fist, with your thumb from your dominant hand extended and inside the fist for your non-dominant hand. To make the sign you pull your dominant hand (and thumb) down and away from your non-dominant hand.

Usage: having your baby learn to start communicating to you about poop and pee is the first stage of potty training. To help them learn the signs and underlying concept, make the appropriate sign as you change their diaper, when they are on the potty, or if they have an accident.

I have a very delayed 5 yr old granddaughter she knows some signs what can I do to help her potty train

    ADMIN – Hi Heather,

If she is five years old you need to get with a developmental therapist to help her out.

Is there a sign for ‘gas’? Less for potty training, more for identifying different causes of fuss.

    ADMIN – Hi L,

This is usually finger-spelled. I would create my own sign combining the sign for fart and the sign for pain.
