Video: Light in Baby Sign Language
Signing: To sign light, take your strong hand and raise above and to the side of your head. Take your fingers from being extended and together to extended outward. The sign looks like a light is flicking on, spreading out it’s rays.

Figure: Light in Baby Sign Language
Usage: Light is useful for turning on and off a room light. Use the light sign every time you turn on or turn off a light. Baby’s tend to find having some way to communicate their wishes to switch on a light a nice way to exercise a little control over their environment.

Hello, your site is so useful! We are learning about light, dark, and how to make shadows. Can you tell me the sign for shadow, or add it to the dictionary? Thank you!
ADMIN – Hi Crissy,
That is a tricky sign. Close your dominant fist and bring it toward your chin, flick your chin with your index and thumb and quickly move your hand down to waist height where your non-dominant hand is waiting with palm down as if it was a roof. Once your dominant hand arrives under the “roof” open it and separate your fingers as it rests below the shadow hand.
Hi,
how would you sign a traffic lights?

What about lights as in christmas lights?

Hi, I love teaching sign to my granddaughter and she is so pleased to be able to communicate what she wants. When I first went on your web site there would always be a video to demonstrate the sign. I have had my computer fixed lately and since then I can’t get the video, only the drawing. Before I take it back can you tell me if you have stopped the video? Any way I love the web site Thank you Pam
ADMIN – Hi Pam,
Great to hear. We do still have all the videos, might be an issue with the computer.
