Friend
To make the sign for friend, hold out both of your index fingers hooked in a curved or 'C'-like shape. Holding one hand with your hook index facing up, hook the second index into the first. Then reverse the position for the hands and do it again. It is like your fingers are best friends and giving each other a hug.
SIGN USAGE
Make the friend sign when reintroducing your baby to one of their similar age playmates. "It's your friend, Sally."

This is one of the most important signs and is quite helpful in pointing our babies toward being able to communicate emotional connections. If your baby attends play groups, teach him or her the word for friend early on.

Hi. My name is Leslie Briggs. I teach 2nd grade in Preston, ID. I would like to help improve the culture of my school (& perhaps, by extension, other schools) by asking the teachers to teach their students 9 signs and encourage them to use the signs with others. The 9 signs are “hello, friend, please, you’re welcome, thank you, excuse me, I’m sorry, hurt, & help”.
