Bite

To sign bite, you start with your dominant hand, which will represent a mouth biting something. It will bite your non-dominant hand at chest height, with the non-dominant hand in a flat, palm-downward position.

The sign looks like one hand biting the other hand.

SIGN USAGE

You can use bite to teach your child to eat by taking bites, or to correct biting behavior common in toddlers. You can also teach the words food and apple at the same time as bite, to help your child learn what the words mean. You could say something like, "Bite your apple," and, "Don't bite your friend."

RELATED SIGNS

Use the bite flash card in conjunction with the food and apple flash cards. The goal is to help your baby make the connection between the action of biting and objects he or she is likely to bite. Also, consider combining the sign with teaching a baby not to bite.

Also it’s common to make up your own sign for a name in the ASL community. So you could finger sign the entire name or create a short hand.
