Jam

To sign jam/jelly, make you dominant hand in a fist and stick out your pinkie. This is the ASL symbol for the letter 'J'. Turn your fist to the side and use your pinkie to "scoop" up the jam/ jelly out of your other hand. Have this hand palm up to act as the bowl.

SIGN USAGE

A good time to introduce jam/jelly to your child is when making a PBJ. Use the sign while showing your baby the jar, spreading on the bread, or even giving them a small taste. Reinforce it as the child eats by saying something like, "Mmm, jam/jelly."
